| Allison Snowhawk Lee was born in 1958 and attended boarding school until 8th grade. Lee is the last name given to him by the boarding school because they couldn't pronounce, spell, or translate his Navajo name. He uses his grandmother's name, Snowhawk. He started studying the art of silversmithing while still in high school at the age of 12, and soon began spending his summers working in jewelry shops in Gallup, studying under a variety of artists to learn different techniques. Allison is proud that now he is able to mentor young artists and teach them his master silversmithing techniques. Allison has received many awards for his work. He recently received Best of Division at the Santa Fe Indian Market and he has won the George G. West Memorial Award three years in a row. |
